Dealership Information

I was at a car show recently and was asked about a scene in the movie "Vanishing Point". In the original 1971 film, there is a scene where Kowalski is driving through Denver and passes a Dodge dealership called Colorado Dodge. The guy knew I grew up in Denver and wondered where that dealership is.
I know exactly where that dealership is, or rather, was. When I was a kid, my Granddad would take us to Furr's Cafeteria on Colorado Boulevard, right next door to Colorado Dodge. I can still remember looking at the cars there when we walked into Furr's, because Granddad always drove Dodges. I wish I'd had a camera back then...
I told the guy asking about Colorado Dodge that it was bought by Skyline Dodge some time later and eventually the dealership closed. There is an office building there now. But his question made me think. Every so often a request comes in for information regarding the location of a dealership where a particular car was sold new. Unfortunately, there does not appear to be any comprehensive collection of old dealership information on the web, so finding this information can be difficult at best.
With that in mind, here is a listing of Chrysler, DeSoto, Dodge, Imperial, Plymouth and Valiant dealerships that are known to have existed between 1914 and 1980. It is sorted first by State, Province or Territory, then by City, then by Dealership Name. Dates are verified from dealer stamps on new car brochures, newspaper ads, window stickers and old phone books. Multiple entries exist for dealerships that moved, changed names or changed dealer codes. If only one source for verification exists, the early and late dates will be the same. Most of the dates listed for January simply mean the dealership existed at that location some time during that calendar year. If the exact date cannot be determined, there will be no verified date listed.
It is hoped that more information will be added in the future. That, however, will require some assistance from the readers. If you have any information concerning any Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth or DeSoto dealerships that were in business prior to 1980, please mail a Xerox copy or email a scanned image to the address listed on the Contact page. Your information will be shared with the Internet Mopar community and will be greatly appreciated by anyone seeking information on that dealership. Any old dealership photos would be greatly appreciated, too, as long as they are public domain or rights to publish can be granted.
We're up to over 1,500 entries. I have received several letters and emails from people who have found their car's original selling dealership from this information. Please keep sending in that dealer information.

23 Oct 2006: We now have entries for every State except Alaska and Hawaii. We're still trying to find info for Canadian Provinces.
